HZwo oversees the topics of fuel cells and green hydrogen and manages a comprehensive value creation network in Europe. The association gives the players involved early access to future sales markets and thus a technological edge to sustainably secure Saxony's future as a high-tech location. In addition, stakeholders are supported in the conversion of their processes to hydrogen and its cross-sectoral application. HZwo sees itself as a bridge between stakeholders in different countries. Intensive contacts exist with Switzerland, Austria, France, the Czech Republic, Poland, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Slovenia, Spain, Finland, Ireland and the UK.

HZwo e.V. offers its members access to exclusive, self-developed open-source technology platforms, to actively push developments in this area. The association is also responsible for the successful application of Chemnitz as a location for the BMDV's National Innovation and Technology Centre for Hydrogen (HIC).

As part of the Saxon hydrogen strategy, HZwo e.V. and EnergySaxony e.V. were commissioned by the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport and the Saxon State Ministry of Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture to operate as the Saxon hydrogen competence centre KH2. It operates as the central point of contact for citizens, local authorities, the media, industry and science for all questions relating to hydrogen production, transport, storage and application.
